Teresa Leible of Chaffee captured first and fifth place in the Balloon Fest 1994 Photo Contest.
Her first-place photograph will be used to publicize next year's Balloon Fest and will be seen in newspapers and magazines.
Dennis Raddle of Cape Girardeau finished second. Linda Kieffer of Scott City claimed third and fourth-place ribbons. Amy Friese of Cape Girardeau won a special honorable mention award for special effects. A People's Choice award will be voted on at the Commerce Bank exhibit.
The entries were judged by a committee of two professional photographers and one photographer's agent. The judges were asked to select photos for publication in Cape Girardeau's Balloon Fest 1995.
In addition to photographic excellence and composition, the judges considered how each shot represented Balloon Fest 1994 events and how well they would reproduce on newsprint and slick paper for magazines.
There was such an abundance of quality entries submitted that the judges felt some recognition should be given purely on artistic merit. Friese's shot received the honorable mention ribbon for this special award.
An exhibit of all entries submitted to the Balloon Fest 1994 Photo Contest will be on display at Commerce Bank, 160 S. Broadview Sept. 12 through 30. The exhibit will be on display in the bank lobby during regular banking hours.
Laurel Adkisson of Commerce Bank requested the designation of a People's Choice award. Ballots will be available to the public at the exhibit through Sept. 27. The People's Choice award will remain on display through the end of the exhibit on Sept. 30. Photographs will be returned in their mailing envelopes or may be reclaimed at the Arts Council office after Tuesday, Oct. 4.
