SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Developers have grounded a proposed aviation museum in southwest Missouri.
The Kalamazoo (Mich.) Aviation History Museum, in a news release distributed Friday, said its trustees recently scrapped plans to build the Legacy of Flight museum in Springfield.
In a news release, museum officials cited three reasons for the decision -- the struggling economy; a lack of anticipated state funding; and a recent report that the first-year attendance failed to meet projections at Springfield's outdoor-themed Wonders of Wildlife museum.
First announced last fall, the museum was envisioned as a $120 million attraction filled with antique airplanes, state-of-the-art flight simulators and a full-motion theater.
