LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. (AP) -- The suburban Kansas City police officer whose wife declined medical attention before she died is out of a job.
Lee's Summit Police confirmed that as of Friday, Caleb Horner was no longer an officer, but they did not reveal terms of his departure from the department he served for nine years.
Horner had been on paid leave since the Jan. 9, 2007, death of his wife, Misty Horner, one month after their daughter was stillborn. Family members have said the Horners cited religious beliefs for refusing medical treatment.
Jackson County prosecutors did not file charges in the death of the 30-year-old woman or the stillborn baby. They said there was no evidence Misty Horner ever wanted to go outside their religion to seek medical help as her condition worsened.
