Central students named to the list were: Mark Anderson, James Fletcher, Shawn Haley, Matthew Hawkins, Cecilia Kuntz, Julie McGowen, Brandon Ruth, Ryan Stott and Marisa Uzoaru.

Commended Students placed among the top 5 percent of more than 1 million students who entered the 1999 Merit Program by taking the 1997 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
