Scholarships awarded to local students

The following local students recently received scholarships:

* Jennifer Kasten, a student at Southeast Missouri State University and resident of Pocahontas, has received the ARA Insurance Services/John P. Greenfield II scholarship from the American Rental Association Foundation.

* Southeast Missouri State University senior Shnithia Newton of Cape Girardeau is one of just 25 people in the nation to receive the "Fast Start to Radio Sales Success Minority Scholarship to attend the Radio Training Academy in Dallas this fall.

* Zach Hudson of Cape Girardeau, son of Roger and Elizabeth Hudson and a 2005 graduate of Central High School, has received a scholarship from the David Birenbaum fund of the American Association of Bioanalysts.

* Kelly McLendon of Jackson is one of 500 students in the U.S. to receive a $2,000 scholarship from Mercedes-Benz USA's "drive your future" program.

Langenfeld named Outstanding Music Camper

Julie Langenfeld of Cape Girardeau, daughter of Mark and Kathy Langenfeld, was named "Outstanding Music Camper" of the week at Southeast Missouri State University for the recent summer music camp.

Local students attend Girls State in Warrensburg

The following local juniors recently attended Girls State in Warrensburg, Mo.:

From Central High School -- Sarah Kinnison, daughter of Carl and Christy Kinnison; Jami Dement, daughter of Jerry and Toni Dement; Brianna LeGrand, daughter of Steve and Mary LeGrand; Hannah Lewis, daughter of Ben and Debbie Lewis.

From Notre Dame Regional High School -- Jessie Vavak, daughter of Johnny and Lori Vavak; Catherine Meyer, daughter of Thomas M. and Mary Meyer.
