CTC students win awards
Cape Girardeau Career and Technology Center students won awards in the SkillsUSA Championships in television and video production at a national conference in Kansas City in June.
CTC students Darren Wehmeyer of McClure, Ill., and Ricky Scaggs of Jackson took gold in video production development in the post-secondary division. Andrew Kenner and Trey Baird, both of Jackson, took silver in the post-secondary division for the creation of a one-minute VHS video. Mason Loy of Cape Girardeau and Lance Benson of Scott City took bronze in the secondary division.
Immaculate Conception School in Jackson was commended by the Springfield-Cape Girardeau diocesan assessment team for its commitment to communication arts, extensive volunteer program, quality pre-school program, Catholic identity of the school, development of the whole child through school enrichment programs such as speech club, science club, math programs, scrapbook activities and physical conditioning.
* Robert Patrick Rafferty, son of Robert and Susan Rafferty of Jackson, received a master's degree in music from the Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.
* Nathan Bragg of Cape Girardeau has been named to the dean's list at Boston University in Massachusetts.
* Michael Zimmer of Cape Girardeau has been named to the spring semester dean's list at St. Louis University John Cook School of Business.
* Kristina New, daughter of Ellen New of Charleston, Mo., and Kenny and Cynthia New of Cape Girardeau, has been named to the trustees' list for academic success at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Mo.
Seyer and Wright are graduates of Notre Dame Regional High School. Seyer is the son of Matt and Donna Seyer of Cape Girardeau. Wright is the son of Dru and Debbie Wright of Scott City. Farrow, a graduate of Cape Girardeau Central High School, is the son of Victor and Linda Farrow of Cape Girardeau.
* Clayton Hill of Cape Girardeau received a Missouri Assessment Program Scholarship and a Boys State Leadership Award to attend Southeast Missouri State University. A 2006 graduate of Cape Girardeau Central High School, he is the son of Gary and Lisa Helle of Cape Girardeau and Trea and Tammy Hill of Thebes, Ill.
* Rachel Harris of Cape Girardeau has been awarded a Regents' Scholarship and Missouri Assessment Program Scholarship to attend Southeast Missouri State University. A 2006 Cape Girardeau Central High School graduate, she is the daughter of Donald and Beverly Harris of Cape Girardeau.

* Jackson High School graduates Cole Jansen and Lucy Hartmann, Notre Dame Regional High School graduates Chelsey Rigdon and Nick Unverferth, Saxony Lutheran High School graduate Danielle Leible and Oak Ridge High School student Tyler Williams received $500 college scholarships from the Jackson Knights of Columbus. Jansen is the son of Steve and Cheryl Jansen. Unverferth is the son of Mike and Gayle Unverferth. Ridgdon is the daughter of Kim and Karen Ridgon. Leible is the daughter of Jeff and Beth Leible. Hartmann is the daughter of Richard and Kathleen Hartmann. Williams is the son of Keith and Susie Williams.

Brooke Grubb of Marquand, Mo., who is entering ninth grade at Marquand-Zion High School, attended a three-week special academic program this summer at Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C. She is the daughter of Sueann Slinkard of Marquand and the late Donnie Grubb Jr. She traveled to North Carolina with her grandmother, Brenda Grubb of Marquand, and her great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Winston Wehmeyer of Thebes, Ill.

Fara McDonald of Cape Girardeau has been chosen as a member of the National Honor Roll's Outstanding American Teachers for 2005-2006. She teaches seventh grade math at Sikeston Middle School.
