Leible, Berry take top honors at Saxony; Willingham named to All Big 12 track first team; Area students to attend leadership conference

Area students earn spots on honors lists

  • Sara Heisserer was named to the president's list at Williams Baptist College in Walnut Ridge, Ark.

* Michael Zimmer, a 2003 graduate of Central High School and the son of James and Lori Zimmer of Cape Girardeau, has been named to the dean's list at St. Louis University John Cook School of Business.

* The following local students were named to the dean's list at Southwest Missouri State University: Lucas Bollinger of Burfordville; Tyler Banken, Amanda Dumey and Kirstin Huey of Cape Girardeau; Jessica Bill, Jeremy Houchins, Sarah Luehrs, Erin Mayfield and Kathryn Perry of Jackson.

Leible, Berry take top honors at Saxony

Deanna Leible has been named valedictorian and Amanda Berry salutatorian for the class of 2005 at Saxony Lutheran High School. Leible is the daughter of Jeff and Beth Leible. She plans to attend Concordia University in Seward, Neb., and major in secondary education. Berry is the daughter of Ken and Elaine Berry. She plans to attend College of the Ozarks.

Willingham named to All Big 12 track first team

Daniel Willingham, a 2003 graduate of Central High School, has been named to the All Big 12 men's track and field academic first team. He is the son of Robert and Pat Willingham. Willingham is attending University of Missouri and was required to maintain a 3.2 or higher GPA and and compete in at least 60 percent of his scheduled meets to earn the honor.

Area students to attend leadership conference

Thirteen students from Jackson High School have been selected to attend the National Leadership Conference of Future Business Leaders of America this summer in Orlando, Fla. Leni Fluegge, Jordan Cox, Hillary Jordan, Lisa Steffens, Matt Bollinger, Sarah Hinkebein, Ashley Meyr, Kalli Gibbs, Eric Balsman, Amanda Sutterer, Chelsea Morton, Ryan Roth and Casey Alderson will compete in various events, attend leadership workshops and make presentations during the conference.

Honors, graduate degrees

The following local students graduated with honors or graduate degrees during the spring 2005 semester:

* Alexis Jolly, grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Cleve Jolly of Cape Girardeau, recently graduated magna cum laude from Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire.

Kelso, Mo. -- Jennifer Bucher, cum laude with a bachelor's in accountancy.

Scholarships

The following local students recently received scholarships:

* Kari Bragg of Cape Girardeau and Jodi Hodge of Chaffee, Mo. have each received a Sam Walton Community Scholarship.

* Tyler Elfrink, a graduate of Leopold High School, has received the first $1,000 scholarship from US Bank of Bollinger County.

* Katherine Belcher of Cape Girardeau, a 2005 graduate of Central High School and daughter of Gary and Sue Belcher, has been awarded a President's Plus Scholarship to Southeast Missouri State University.
