SEMO student inducted into honor society

Kristal Fish, a student at Southeast Missouri State University, was recently inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma, the honor society for business programs. Fish is a licensed Realtor with Realty Executive of Cape County. She plans to finish her bachelor's degree in marketing in December.

Holt receives doctorate from St. Louis University

Sarah Holt of Cape Girardeau recently received her doctorate in policy analysis and administration from St. Louis University. Holt also holds a bachelor's degree in education and a master's degree from Southeast Missouri State University. She is a fellow in the American College of Medical Practice Executives.

Miller graduates from Quincy University

Zach Miller of Cape Girardeau was among students who recently graduated from Quincy University in Quincy, Ill. Miller is the son of Mitch and Diane Miller and is a graduate of Notre Dame Regional High School. He received his master's degree in business administration.

Four from area named Horatio Alger scholars

Four local students were among 100 from across Missouri to be named Horatio Alger Missouri Scholars and receive a $2,500 scholarship. They are Kristen Clifton of Perryville, Maria Oehl and Rebecca Wissehr of Jackson and Bonan Wang of Cape Girardeau.

Area student to take part in fine arts academy

Matthew Morris, a student at Jackson High School, has been selected to participate in the Missouri Fine Arts Academy this summer in Springfield, Mo. Morris is the son of Tom and Nancy Morris. Students are selected for the academy based on a written application as well as demonstrated talent in their chosen arts area through portfolios or video submissions.

Butler named to dean's list at Louisiana college

Angel Butler of Scott City was among 318 students at Centenary College of Louisiana to be named to the spring 2004 semester dean's list. The college is in Shreveport, La.

Local students named to CMSU dean's list

The following local students earned a spot on Central Missouri State University's spring 2004 semester dean's list:

Jackson -- Ashley S. Millham, Lisa N. Millham;

Perryville -- Nicholas Emmendorfer, Emily Ann Amberger, Nathan J. Hemmann, Cassandra M. Hoernig, Windy Dawn Venable.

Canfield, Hemmann and Michael Nations also graduated this semester from Central Missouri. Both Canfield and Hemmann graduated cum laude.

Holyfield earns spot on MWSC dean's list

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- Alyssa Holyfield of Cape Girardeau was among the 469 students at Missouri Western State College ato be named to the spring 2004 semester dean's list.

Cape native awarded for achievement at Ole Miss

OXFORD, Miss. -- Michael Sirimaturos of Cape Girardeau was recently recognized for outstanding achievement during University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy's commencement ceremonies. Sirimaturos, who earned a bachelor's degree in pharmaceutical sciences, received the Eli Lilly and Company Award for Leadership. He served as president of the 2003-2004 pharmacy student body, and is a member of Phi Lambda Sigma pharmacy leadership society, Golden Key International Honour Society, American Pharmacists Association -- Academy of Students of Pharmacy, Beta Theta Pi fraternity and Phi Kappa Phi honor society. He is the son of Chris Sirimaturos.

Lee awarded two scholarships to SEMO

Ashton Lee of Chaffee is this year's recipient of the Virginia Finch scholarship and the Chaffee Elk's Lodge 1810 scholarship. A 2004 graduate of Chaffee High School, she is enrolled at Southeast Missouri State University, where she plans to major in nursing. She is the daughter of Mike and Carla Lee.

Easter recognized for academic achievement

The United States Achievement Academy has announced that Katherine Easter of Benton, Mo., has been recognized for academic achievement as a United States National Honor Roll Award winner. Easter, who attends Kelly High School, will appear in the United States Achievement Academy Official Yearbook, which is published nationally. She is the daughter of Roy and JoAnn Easter of Benton and the granddaughter of Marvin and Mary Margrabe, also of Benton.

Obermann wins national achievement award

The United States Achievement Academy has announced that Alisha D. Obermann of Scott City has been named an All-American Scholar. Obermann, who attends Scott City High School, will appear in the All-American Scholar Yearbook, which is published nationally. She is the daughter of Debbie Bollinger of Scott City.

Oran native gets perfect GPA at Williams Baptist

WALNUT RIDGE Ark. -- Sarah Heiserer of Oran, Mo., was among students named to the president's list for a perfect 4.0 grade point average during the spring 2004 semester at Williams Baptist College.

Beggs accepted to WUSTL architecture program

William Beggs was recently accepted into the Architecture Discovery Program at Washington University in St. Louis. William will be a senior at Kelly High School next year. He is District 15 FBLA president, Beta Club President, student council secretary and senior class senator. He is the son of Bill and Diana Beggs of Kelso, Mo.

Booster club scholarships go to Presson, Ramsey

Lucas Presson and Alex Ramsey were recently awarded the Central High School All School Booster Club scholarship for $1,000. Presson, son of Donald and Janet Presson, plans to attend Southeast Missouri State University as a pre-pharmacy student. He has also received a scholarship from the Cape Girardeau Kiwanis as well as Southeast's president's scholarship. Ramsey, son of Mac and Pat Ramsey, plans to attend the University of Evansville and major in psychology. He also received the university's academic scholarship.

McCormack wins SEMO District Fair scholarship

James Dennis McCormack of Jackson has received the 2004 SEMO District Fair Foundation Scholarship. The $600 scholarship is awarded to a college student with an agriculture-related major and past participation in the fair. McCormack, the son of Dennis and Shirley McCormack of Jackson, is a student at the University of Missouri-Columbia, majoring in agriculture education.

Trankler graduates with honors from Linn State

Lance Thomas Trankler of Jackson recently graduated with honors from Linn State Technical College in Linn, Mo. Trankler, the son of Frank and Debbie Trankler, was a member of Phi Theta Kappa at Linn State. He received an associate's degree in industrial electricity.

Essner receives MFA Foundation scholarship

Lisa Marie Essner, a 2004 graduate of Kelly High School, recently received the $1,200 MFA Foundation scholarship. Essner is the daughter of Andrew and Carla Essner. She plans to attend Mineral Area Community College in Park Hills, Mo. The scholarship was sponsored by the MFA Agri Services in Benton, Mo.

Scott City native graduates with honors

Justin Cox of Scott City recently graduated summa cum laude from Washington University with the Ethan A.H. Shepley Award. Cox, the son of Debbie Cox of Scott City and Bryan Cox of St. James, Mo., plans to teach English in Chile for a year before entering law school at Yale University. He received the $30,000 Beineke Scholarship to attend Yale. At Washington University, Cox was involved in Phi Sigma Tau, Pi Sigma Alpha and Sigma Delta Pi. He double majored in philosophy and political science and double minored in legal studies and Spanish.

Scott City graduates get college scholarships

The following 2004 graduates from Scott City High School recently received college scholarships:

Kyle Ashcraft, son of Gerald and Michelle Ashcraft of Benton, Mo., received the Scott City Bank & Trust and Paul Guard Honor scholarships.

Tyler Ward, son of Glenn Ward and Cheryl Jones of Scott City, received a scholarship from Rend Lake Community College.

Jeremy Schlosser, son of Darryl and Shawn Schlosser of Scott City, received a basketball scholarship to Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Mo.

Amanda Raines, daughter of Mark and Teresa Raines of Scott City, received the Scott City Women's Club, Keith Anderson Memorial, Tyson Foods Agriculture and Spies Fund & Agriculture scholarships.

Bonnie Walker, daughter of Whitney and Gina Bellis of Scott City, received the Class of 1983 scholarship.

Ryan Glastetter, son of Mark and Ruth Glastetter of Chaffee, Mo., received the Scott City Parent Teacher Organization scholarship.

Christie Gibbons, daughter of Lawrence and Sandra Gibbons of Scott City, received the Eugen Skinner Memorial and Gale Dale Memorial scholarships.

Jesse Glueck, daughter of Stephen and Donna Glueck of Scott City, received the Class of 1982 Mark Coomer Memorial Scholarship.

Renee Compass, daughter of Greg and Leslie Compass of Scott City, received the Scott City Women's Club and Southeast Missouri State University Leadership Award scholarships.

Zachary Callow, son of Shane and Renee Callow of Scott City, received the Sturtevant and Endowment scholarships to Illinois College.

Loren Groves, daughter of David and Jeannie Groves of Scott City, received the Community Teachers Association and Future Teachers of America scholarships.

Jenny Dale, daughter of Derrick and Leanna Dale of Scott City, received the music scholarship to Shawnee Community College in Ullin, Ill.

Local students to attend Boys State at CMSU

Steve Miinch, 17, a student at Central High School, has been selected to attend the American Legion Boys State of Missouri later this month at Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Mo. Miinch is sponsored by VFW Post 3838 and is the son of Steve and Patti Miinch. He is involved in Eagle Scouts, baseball, FBLA and student leadership academy. He is an American Legion Award Recipient and is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Nick Garvey, 17, a student at Jackson High School, has been selected to attend the American Legion Boys State of Missouri later this month at Central Missouri State University. Garvey is the son of Joseph and Maryann Garvey. He is involved in FBLA, Spanish Club, National Honor Society, and has attended the National Youth Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C.

Seyer gets academic scholarship to SMSU

Matthew Seyer of Oran, Mo., is one of 912 students to received a scholarship to Southwest Missouri State University. Seyer, the son of Neal and Tammy Seyer, received an academic scholarship.

Jackson natives named to Linn State dean's list

Billy Joe Thompson III and Lance Trankler of Jackson were named to the spring 2004 dean's list at Linn State Technical College. Both are industrial electricity majors.

Ivers,Barber named to OSU honor roll

Karen Ivers of Cape Girardeau and Paul Barber of Altenburg, Mo., were among 3,900 students named to the spring 2004 semester honor roll at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Okla.

Vicentian Awards presented at ceremony

Jordan Seabaugh and Mark Zimmer are recipients of the Vincentian Award at St. Vincent de Paul Parish School.

The award, which was presented at the eighth grade graduation ceremony, is given to students who demonstrate Christian spirit, a zeal for learning and a love of life.

Seabaugh is the daughter of Jerry and Dinah Seabaugh. Zimmer is the son of James and Lori Zimmer.

Area students to attend Girls State at CMSU

The following local students were chosen to attend the 63rd session of Missouri Girls State later this month at Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Mo.:

Criddle chosen to attend leaders conference

Aaron Criddle, a seventh-grade student in the Delta School District, was recently selected to attend the 2004 National Junior Leaders Conference in Washington D.C. in July. The conference is an invitational leadership program for academically talented middle school students. Criddle is the son of Jason and Kristina Criddle.
