Alex Martin of McClure, Ill., recently attended the Congressional Youth Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C., as part of a leadership development program. Martin is a senior at Shawnee High School in Wolf Lake, Ill.
Lessley Dennington of Cape Girardeau has been selected for the Junior National Young Leaders Conference held in Washington, D.C., in April. The conferences develops leadership skills and introduces middle school sudents to leadership throughout American history. Dennington is the daughter of Don and Marilee Dennington.
Emma Evans of Jackson was named to the 2004 fall semester dean's list at Fontbonne University in St. Louis.
Four local students recently received the Good Citizens' Award from the Nancy Hunter Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. They were Kristina Stovall of Delta High School, Rusty Staller of Oak Ridge High School, Rachel Story of Central High School and Emily Bira of Notre Dame Regional High School.
Winners in the 2005 Noon Optimist of Jackson oratorical contest were: Samantha Elfrink, third place; Anna Haertling, second place; Kelly Litzelfelner, first place; Blake Stone, third place; Trevor Mabuse, second place, Landon Huber, first place. First-place winners qualified to advance to the Optimist's zone contest later this month.
James Holloway, a fifth-grader at Trinity Lutheran School, was recently selected to attend the state finals competition of the National Geographic Society's Geographic Bee. Holloway is the son of Keith and Kathy Holloway.
Kathleen Graham of Jackson has been selected for a Beyond Boundaries Scholarship to Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, Ark., for the fall 2005 semester. She is the daughter of Mark and Elise Graham of Jackson.
Rachel Roggow of Cape Girardeau has been awarded a President's Scholarship to attend Central Missouri State University starting this fall. A senior at Notre Dame Regional High School, she is the daughter of Rodney and Karen Roggow of Cape Girardeau.
