Scholarships awarded to local students

  • Southeast Missouri State University has awarded President's scholarships to Kayla Auer and Ashley Sachse, both of Cape Girardeau; Molly Hahs, Amanda Wormington and Joshua Johnson, all of Jackson; Kathleen Farrow of Altenburg, Mo., and Heather Beal of Marble Hill, Mo., for the 2006-2007 academic year.

Auer, the daughter of Mark and Joy Auer of Cape Girardeau, attends Cape Girardeau Central High School.

Hahs, Wormingon, Johnson and Farrow all attend Jackson High School. Hahs is the daughter of Joanie Hendricks of Jackson and Robert Hahs of Jackson. Wormington is the daughter of Marvin and Cheryl Wormington of Jackson. Johnson is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Johnson II of Jackson. Farrow is the daughter of Donald and Cindy Farrow of Altenburg.

Beal attends Woodland High School. She is the daughter of Steve Beal of Marble Hill.

* Tina Suhre and Erica Bock, both of Jackson and Emily Blattel of Scott City have been awarded President's Plus scholarships to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2006-2007 academic year. Bock also has been awarded a Missouri Leadership Award.

Suhre, the daughter of Ken and Sandie Suhre of Jackson, attends Central High School.

Blattel attends Notre Dame Regional High School. She is the daughter of Larry and Tina Blattel of Scott City.

Bock, the daughter of Mark Bock of Jackson and Vickie Rinehart of Dexter, Mo., attends Jackson High School.

* Conrad Westrich, Jessie Vavak, Rachel Huebel and Philip Brotherton, all of Cape Girardeau, and Stacey Thompson of Gordonville have been awarded Regents' scholarships to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2006-2007 academic year.

Westrich and Brotherton attend Cape Central High School. Westrich is the son of Roger and Pamela Westrich of Cape Girardeau. Brotherton is the son of Robert and Mary Brotherton of Cape Girardeau. Vavak, daughter of Johnny and Lori Vavak of Cape Girardeau, attends Notre Dame Regional High School. Huebel, daughter of Randy and Kate Huebel of Cape Girardeau, attends Eagle Ridge High School. Thompson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Thompson of Gordonville, has been home schooled.

* Casey Hinkebein of Jackson has been awarded a Missouri Leadership Award and a Girl's State Leadership Award to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2006-2007 academic year.

A senior at Jackson High School, she is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ennis William Hinkebein II of Jackson.

HONORS LISTS

Local students named to university dean's lists

  • Ashton Phillips and Abbie Cook, both of Scott City, have been named to the 2005 fall semester dean's list at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Mo.

* Alexandra Wieser of Cape Girardeau and Deana McCormick of Jackson have been named to the dean's list at Quincy University in Quincy, Ill.

AWARDS

St. Paul school honored for accomplishments

The Missouri House has passed a resolution applauding the history and accomplishments of St. Paul Lutheran School in Jackson. The resolution was presented to school principal Delvin Meyr and students Brayden Williams, Miranda Hines, Addison Beussink and Carson Barnes.

Central student named national award winner

Cape Girardeau Central High School student Christina Chastain has been named a United States National Award winner in English by the U.S. Achievement Academy. She also has been recognized for superior academic achievement by the National Society of High School Scholars.

Balsman gets academic excellence award

Jennifer Balsman, the daughter of Melvin and Shirley Balsman of Perryville, Mo., has won an academic excellence award as a student in the Vermont Law School, class of 2007, in South Royalton, Vt.
