Scholarship orientation set for Friday at SEMO

A Scholarship First STEP orientation will be held Friday at Southeast Missouri State University for students receiving governor's, president's, regents' and university scholarships.

First STEP (Southeast Testing Enrollment Program) activities will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the University Center.

Dr. Jane Stephens, Southeast provost, will welcome students and families. Dr. Ken Dobbins, president of Southeast will make brief remarks at a 3 p.m. reception.

SEMO to hold Show Me Day this week

Prospective students and their parents are invited to Show Me Day at Southeast Missouri State University Saturday.

The event begins at noon at the Show Me Center with a college fair in which students may browse through informational displays of the university's various academic departments.

Professors from each department will be on hand to answer questions. Information will be available to prospective students on everything from academic options to financial aid and student activities.

Following the college fair, Debbie Below, Southeast admissions director, and Luke Dalton, Southeast Student Government president, will make brief presentations. That will be followed by campus tours, financial aid and residence hall presentations. The day will end with a reception at Robert A. Dempster Hall.

SEMO program wins national recognition

Southeast Missouri State University's educational administration program has won national recognition from the Educational Leadership Constituent Council.

Southeast's program prepares individuals to be school administrators such as principals and superintendents.

The program is the only one of 14 such programs throughout the state to meet or exceed the ELCC standards, university officials said.

Four students make Westminster dean's list

Westminster College in Jefferson City, Mo., has announced its fall dean's list.

Those named to the list were: Daniel Jackson and Jerod Seib, both of Cape Girardeau; and Cailin Bricknell and Frank Miller, both of Jackson, Mo.

Asthma scholarship applications available

Information and applications for the 2002 Will to Win Asthma Athlete Scholarships may be obtained www.thewilltowin.org.

The Will to Win program recognizes the nation's top high school athletes with asthma. The deadline for entries is April 30. Winners will be notified in writing in June.

Student on honor roll at school for deaf

Deidre Wiseman has been named to the Missouri School of the Deaf honor roll for the fall 2001 semester.

She is the daughter of Velma Wiseman of Cape Girardeau.

Student housing for convention needed

The Central High School student senate still needs volunteers to host two to four students during the annual statewide student senate convention March 14-16.

Thirteen awarded SEMO Regents' Scholarships

Thirteen Southeast Missouri high school students have been awarded regents' scholarships to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2002-03 academic year. They are:

From Cape Girardeau: Anthony Boren, son of David and Linda Boren; Lauren Hine, daughter of Jeff and Debbie Hine; Kerri Bard, daughter of Patricia Herod of Cape Girardeau and Tim Bard of East Prairie, Mo.; Amy Dewrock, daughter of Gene and Michelle Dewrock; Layne Strattman, daughter of Lawrence and Carol Strattman; Geoffrey Seyer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis C. Seyer; Timothy Wencewicz, son of Thomas and Dotty Wencewicz; and Billy Lesar Jr., son of Renee Bennett of Cape Girardeau and Robert Bennett of Jackson, Mo., and the late Billy Lesar Sr.

Jackson student gets Girl's State award

Blair Hinkebein of Jackson has been awarded a Girl's State Leadership Award to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2002-03 academic year.

She is the daughter of Ron and Susan Hinkebein. She will be a 2002 graduate of Jackson High School and plans to major in nursing at Southeast.

Three get President's Scholarships for SEMO

Three students have been awarded President's Scholarships to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2002-03 academic year.

They are Alicia Sachse of Cape Girardeau, Sarah Devenport of Marble Hill, Mo., and Tiffany Cowell of Scott City, Mo.

Sachse is the daughter of Robert and Andrea Sachse. She will be a 2002 graduate of Notre Dame Regional High School.

Devenport is the daughter of Kimberly and Darrel Devenport. She will be a 2002 graduate of Woodland High School and plans to major in elementary education at Southeast.

Cowell is the daughter of Charles Cowell and Mary and Dale Dannenmueller. She will be a 2002 graduate of Scott City High School and plans to major in elementary education at Southeast.

Two receive leadership awards for SEMO

Kimberly Miller and Jamie Kingery have been awarded Missouri Leadership Awards to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2002-03 academic year.

Miller is the daughter of Tim and Donna Miller of Jackson. She will be a 2002 graduate of Jackson High School and plans to major in elementary education at Southeast.

Kingery is the daughter of Judy Kraft of Patton, Mo., and Ted Kingery Jr. of Arnold, Mo. She will be a 2002 graduate of Meadow Heights High School and plans to major in pre-veterinarian medicine at Southeast.

Jonesboro student on pharmacy dean's list

Amy Dawn Benefield of Jonesboro, Ill., has been named to the dean's list for the fall semester at St. Louis College of Pharmacy.

She is the daughter of Eugene and Kimberly Benefield and a 1998 graduate of Anna-Jonesboro Community High School.

Two make dean's list at Quincy University

Jennifer Glueck and Zach Miller were named to the dean's list at Quincy University in Quincy, Ill.

Glueck is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Glueck and a 1998 graduate of Notre Dame High School.

Miller is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Mitch Miller and a 1999 graduate of Notre Dame High School.

Three from Jackson make dean's list at SIU

Jay Donnelly, Keith McElmurry and Debora Ann Parres, all of Jackson, Mo., were named to the Southern Illinois University dean's list for the fall semester.

Jackson grad in college scholars program

Amanda Gould, a freshman at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn., has been selected to participate in the college scholars program.

The program recognizes and encourages the intellectual accomplishments of undergraduates in the college of arts and sciences by providing opportunities for selected students to interact with each other, to participate in seminars designed especially for them and to receive honors designation upon graduation within the framework of a liberal arts education.

Gould is the daughter of Cathy Gould of Jackson, Mo., and Tim Gould of Cape Girardeau.

She is a 2001 graduate of Jackson High School.
