Six awarded Regents' Scholarships to SEMOSix area students have been awarded Regents' Scholarships to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2002-03 school year.

They are: Wade Christian, Melissa Enderle, Lydia Blades and Tammy Henson, all of Cape Girardeau, and Joseph and William Ettling of Jackson, Mo.

Christian will be a 2002 graduate of Central High School. He is the son of Allen and Nancy Christian of Cape Girardeau.

Enderle will be a 2002 graduate of Notre Dame Regional High School. She is the daughter of David and LeDeva Enderle of Cape Girardeau. She plans to majoring in education.

Blades will be a 2002 graduate of Jackson High School. She is the daughter of Thomas and Valerie Blades of Cape Girardeau. She plans to majoring in criminal justice.

Henson will be a 2002 graduate of Central High School. She is the daughter of Don and Susan Henson of Cape Girardeau. She plans to major in nursing.

Joseph and William Ettling will be 2002 graduates of Jackson High School. They are the sons of Dr. and Mrs. William A. Ettling of Jackson.

Five awarded SEMO President's Scholarships

Five students have received President's Scholarships to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2002-03 school year.

They are: Matthew Wilson of Millersville, Mo.; Joshua Kambitch and Tara Smith, both of Cape Girardeau; and Cory Aufdenberg and Ashley Myer, both of Jackson, Mo.

Wilson will be a 2002 graduate of Jackson High School. He is the son of Paul and Susan Wilson of Millersville. He plans to major in business with an emphasis in advertising.

Kambitch will be a 2002 graduate of Central High School. He is the son of Drake and Jean Kambitch of Cape Girardeau.

Smith will be a 2002 graduate of Central High School. She is the daughter of Michael Smith of Cape Girardeau and Deborah Elfrink, also of Cape Girardeau. She plans to major in elementary education.

Aufdenberg will be a 2002 graduate of Jackson High School. He is the son of Rick and Renee Aufdenberg of Jackson. He plans to major in engineering.

Myer will be a 2002 graduate of Jackson High School. She is the daughter of Keith and Faye Myer of Jackson.

Student gets two awards to attend Southeast

Kerri J. Bard of Cape Girardeau has been awarded a President's Scholarship and Missouri Leadership Award to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2002-03 school year.

She will be a 2002 graduate of Central High School. She is the daughter of Patty Herod of Cape Girardeau and Tim Bard of East Prairie, Mo.

Student gets leadership award, scholarship

Rebecca M. Komorech of Cape Girardeau has been awarded a President's Scholarship and girl's state leadership award to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2002-03 school year.

Komorech will be a 2002 graduate of Central High School. She is the daughter of Bob and Donna Komorech of Cape Girardeau.

Oran student's artwork displayed at exhibition

Art works by Holly Dirnberger of Oran, Mo., were among 112 pieces of art displayed Feb. 3 at the Southeast Missouri State University Museum's "Exhibiting Excellence" exhibit. It was the 24th High School Art Symposium.

Dirnberger is the daughter of Michael and Carol Dirnberger of Oran.

Next ACT assessment scheduled for April 6

College-bound high school students can take the ACT assessment on April 6, the next nationwide test date. The registration postmark deadline is March 1. Late registration postmark deadline is March 15. An additional fee is required for late registration.

The test fee is $24. Students should talk to their high school counselors for more information.

Registration packets available Feb. 19

Registration packets for Immaculate Conception School kindergarden classes will be available for pick-up in the school office beginning at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19.

Children must be 5 years old by Aug. 1 to be eligible to enroll. The completed packets should be completed and returned by March 1.

Jackson student makes Cedarville dean's list

Andrew Young of Jackson, Mo., was named to the Cedarville University dean's list for the fall semester.

Young is the son of Larry and Debbie Young of Jackson and is a freshman majoring in engineering.

Two students make list at St. Louis University

Grant Frey was named to St. Louis University's dean's list for the fall semester.

Frey is the son of Mike and Susan Frey of Scott City, Mo. He is a 2001 graduate of Notre Dame Regional High School.

Nathan Essner was also named to the dean's list. He is a management information systems major.

Essner is a 1999 graduate of Notre Dame Regional High School. He is the son of Robert and Karla Essner of Kelso, Mo.

Two schools receive community grants

Central High School and Scott City Middle School were awarded Community Counts grants by Firstar Bank and Future Builders, the educational foundation of the Missouri School Boards' Association.

Central is using the money to establish a month-long reading and discussion program in order to encourage reading among all members of the community.

Scott City Middle School will use the money to develop a living history video by taping local veterans as they share their stories and experiences during their tours of duty.

Grants range from $100 to $2,500.

Nominations accepted for humanities awards

Outstanding teachers, historians, museum professionals and writers will be recognized for the important contributions they have made to their schools or their community's cultural life at an awards ceremony at the Governor Bob Holden's mansion in Jefferson City, Mo., in October.

The Missouri Humanities Council is now accepting nominations for the award.

Nominations are due by June 3. Winners will be announced in September.

Psych major makes Loyola dean's list

Bonnie Essner was named to the dean's list of Loyola University Chicago College of Arts and Sciences for the fall semester. She is a psychology major.

Essner is a 2000 graduate of Notre Dame Regional High School. She is the daughter of Robert and Karla Essner of Kelso, Mo.

More houses needed for state convention

The Central High School Student Senate needs volunteers to house two to four students March 14-16 during the state student senate convention.
