Cape senior receives Eagle Scout honor
David Dean recently received his Eagle Scout designation from Boy Scout Troop 4. Dean, the son of Don and Carol Dean, has been active in Scouting for more than 10 years, starting out as a Cub Scout and ending as the Troop 4 Senior Patrol Leader. He has been accepted in the U.S. Navy early enlistment program in the Nuclear Engineering program. He is a senior at Central High School. Dean also plays the trombone in the Central Marching Band.
Students awarded university scholarships
The following students were recently award regents' scholarships to Southeast Missouri State University for the 2004-2005 year:
Emily Buehrle, daughter of Tony and Donna Buehrle of Cape Girardeau. She attends Notre Dame Regional High School.
Stacy Dohogne, daughter of Patrick and Lisa Dohogne of Cape Girardeau. She attends Central High School.
Alicia Wilburn, daughter of Darla and Donnie Bohnsack of Advance, Mo., and Rex Wilburn of Neelyville, Mo.. She attends Zalma High School.
Cassie Kipper, daughter of Paul and Bonnie Kipper of Cape Girardeau. She attends Central High School.
Katie Jenkins, daughter of Matthew and Susan Jenkins of Cape Girardeau. She attends Jackson High School.
Audrey Henckell, daughter of Martha and Michael Henckell of Jackson. She attends Jackson High School.
Jen McCausland, daughter of James and Janet McCausland of Cape Girardeau. She attends Notre Dame Regional High School.
Schoenberger receives two music awards
Liesl Schoenberger, daughter of Brenda Schoenberger of Cape Girardeau, recently received two awards. A graduate of Notre Dame Regional High School who now attends Indiana University, Schoenberger received a scholarship to the Mark O'Conner fiddle camp and a $1,000 Yamaha Award during an alternative styles competition held by the Missouri Chapter of American String Teachers Association and the National School Orchestra Association. Schoenberger was also recently inducted into the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, a national, nonprofit honors organization.
Student named to fall 2003 dean's list
Lindsey Davis of Cape Girardeau was recently named to the dean's list at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Ga., for the fall 2003 semester. She is a product design major and the daughter of Phil Davis and Patti Davis.
Two Jackson seniors honored for writing
The National Council of Teachers of English recently honored 628 high school seniors, including two Jackson students, as outstanding writers. Nathanial Hinchey and Melissa Walters, both seniors at Jackson, were among the 18 students from Missouri to win the award. The winning students and their schools receive certificates and each student's name is published in a booklet that is sent to members of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives.
Students fix computers for elementary schools
Students at the Cape Girardeau Career and Technology Center recently cleaned and replaced hard drives on 53 donated computers and delivered them to local schools. The computers, which are three years old, were donated by the government and were sent to Clippard Elementary, Alma Schrader Elementary, Central Middle School and the Alternative Education Center.
Four earn President's Plus scholarships
Gussie Brotherton, Kara Dietz and Cassie Ludwig, all of Jackson, and Wendy Vandeven of Marble Hill, Mo., have all received President's Plus scholarships to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2004-2005 academic year. Brotherton is the son of Tammy and Dean Brotherton of Jackson. Dietz is the daughter of Drew and Melinda Dietz of Jackson. Ludwig is the daughter of Lynn and Susan Ludwig of Jackson. Vandeven is the daughter of Gary and Kim Vandeven of Marble Hill.
Governor's scholarships awarded to two students
Kelley Lichtenegger of Jackson and Lucas Horrell of Marble Hill, Mo., have been awarded Governor's scholarships to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2004-2005 academic year. Lichtenegger is the daughter of Bob and Cindy Lichtenegger of Jackson. Horrell is the son of Dennis and Pam Horrell of Marble Hill.
Jackson student awarded scholarship
Julie Deneke of Cape Girardeau was recently awarded a president's scholarship to Southeast Missouri State University for the 2004-2005 year. She expects to graduate from Jackson High School in 2004. Deneke is the daughter of James and Debbie Deneke of Gordonville, Mo. She plans to major in secondary education.
