Matthews wins local geography bee
Ben Matthews, a seventh-grader at St. Mary Cathedral School, won the school level competition of the National Geographic Bee on Dec. 19. The school-level bee, at which students answered oral questions on geography, was the first round in the 18th annual National Geographic Bee. School winners will take a written test and the top 100 scorers in Missouri will be eligible to compete in the State Bee March 31 and have a chance at winning a $25,000 college scholarship.
C. Allen Collier, a 1993 graduate of Scott City High School, graduated with a master's degree from the Middle Tennessee School of Anesthesia on Dec.3. Collier is the son of Carmon "Spanky" and Myrna Collier and Rick and Cindi Brashear, all of Scott City.
Capt. Sarah Armour, a 1993 graduate of Jackson High School and a 1998 graduate of Southeast Missouri State University, recently graduated with honors from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md., earning a master's degree in nursing. Armour completed her residency program at Kessler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Miss. Armour also received the Paula Goodman Award in recognition of the values instilled by Lt. Col. Paula Goodman.
