Meyr earns law degree from Stetson University

Trae D. Meyr recently earned a juris doctor degree at Stetson University College of Law in Gulfport, Fla.

Meyr passed the Missouri Bar Exam in July and is now employed by Greensfelder, Hemker & Gayle, Attorneys at Law, in St. Louis.

While in college he was named to the National Dean's List, was an All-American Scholar nominee, a Stetson ambassador, a senior associate of the Stetson Law Review and president of Phi Delta Phi.

Meyr is a 1996 graduate of Chaffee High School and a 2000 graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia. He is the son of Larry and Judi Meyr of Chaffee, and grandson of Ortha Croy of Advance, Mo., and Gertrude Meyr of Chaffee.

Maki named scholar with honor by college board

Elizabeth Maki of Cape Girardeau was named a scholar with honor by the college board for having a grade point average of 3.25 or higher on all Advanced Placement exams in 2003.

Maki is a student at the Peddie School in Hightstown, N.J.

Local student to attend leaders conference

Lauren Bishop of Cape Girardeau has been selected to attend the Junior National Young Leaders Conference in Washington D.C. this November.

The program was developed for middle school students and introduces them to leadership throughout American history.

Bishop will visit historic landmarks, such as Colonial Williamsburg, on her visit.

She is sponsored by the Cape Girardeau Kiwanis Club and is the daughter of Sam and Lisa Bishop. She is a student at Central Middle School.

Cape students take part in spelling bee

Six students from Cape Christian School recently competed in the St. Louis Christian Cooperating School District Spelling Bee. Each student first qualified by winning his or her grade-level competition at CCS.

Cassidy Shelton, a second-grade student, placed fourth in the competition. Other participants, who did not place, included: Eli Vines, first grade; Candice Monia, third grade; Barry DeCoursey, fourth grade; Christopher Dedert, fifth grade; and Meg Goodman, sixth grade.

Applications available for exchange program

The Jackson Rotary Club is now accepting applications for high school students interested in spending a year abroad as a Rotary exchange student.

Applications are available in the Jackson High School counselor's office. The deadline is Nov. 17. For more information, contact Dave Walker at 243-6438 or Vernon Kasten Sr. at 243-3138.

Meadow Heights names students of the month

Meadow Heights High School students of the month for October are Kyla Mouser, Elizabeth Waggoner, Joshua Overby, Oriana Bellew, Kristen Pointer and Natasha Burnham.
