Alma Schrader PTA presented first-grade teacher Valerie Williams with the teacher of the month award for November in recognition of her dedication to the Accelerated Reading Program at Alma Schrader. She received a $25 gift certificate to Texas Roadhouse.

Benton student studies genetics at Maine lab

Kristin Russell of Benton, Mo., spent the summer in Bar Harbor, Maine, conducting biomedical research at The Jackson Laboratory, the world's largest mammalian genetics research facility. For 11 weeks, Russell studied the genetics of heart disease under the mentorship of postdoctoral associate John Styliano, working in the laboratory of senior staff scientist Beverly Paigen.
