Perryville alumni recognized at ceremony; GRADUATIONS

Local students named to honor orchestra

The following Central High School orchestra members recently earned a spot in the 2005 Southeast Missouri District Honor Orchestra: Violin -- Karen Broemmelsick, Bethany Stafford, Chris Brotherton, Sarah Goeke, J.D. Mungle, Wendy Jo Dirden, Paige Pritchard, Sylvia Christy, Jenny Huo, Kyle Gilhaus, Ali Yuen and Bethany Olson. Viola -- Charlotte Schaffner, Katie Peel, Amity Downing, Amanda Girard and Rosanna Seiler. Cello -- Diana Rose Harper, Anne Peel, Sirena Watkins, Michael Merritt, Danielle Blake, Catherine Goeke and Thomas Dodd. Bass -- Philip Brotherton and Cole Buerkle. Jackson High School junior Alex Troxel, playing viola, also earned a spot.

Perryville alumni recognized at ceremony

Perryville High School Distinguished Alumnus Awards were given to Sen. Kit Bond in honor of his father, Arthur Bond, a 1920 graduate, for his outstanding athletics in high school and at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Arthur Bond was a Rhodes Scholar and attended Oxford University, where he graduated with a degree in jurisprudence. Also honored at the Oct. 8 ceremony was Dr. Randy Brown, a cardiac and vascular surgeon at Southeast Missouri Hospital, class of 1982, and Bernice Bunkowske, an overseas misson worker and volunteer, class of 1956.

GRADUATIONS

Southeast Missouri State University conferred degrees on 255 students following the summer session. Area residents who graduated with advanced degrees or honors, as listed by hometown:

Cape Girardeau -- Ilonka Georgieva, master's in geoscience; Stephanie Gilmore, master's in community counseling; Elese Hinton, master's in elementary administration, academic distinction; Dianna Karnes, bachelor's degree in education, magna cum laude; Tyson Rayburn, bachelor's in mass communication, cum laude; Laura Schuch, master's in communication disorders; Jon Thrower, master's degree in English, academic distinction; Myisha Watson, bachelor's in psychology, cum laude; Terri West, master's in counseling.
