A harmless smoke will be pumped through sanitary sewer lines near the Southeast Missouri State University campus to identify leaks and defects beginning Friday. Work will be completed in 10 to 14 days. Smoke will not enter buildings if sewer piping is properly connected and in good, working condition. To reduce the chance of smoke entering a home or business, briefly run water from all fixtures, including floor drains, to ensure all traps are full. If smoke does enter a building, it will quickly dissipate. For more information, contact Stan Polivick, stormwater coordinator, at 339-6351.
