The League of Women Voters of Southeast Missouri is holding voter registration throughout Cape Girardeau in preparation for the April 6 municipal elections. Wednesday is the deadline to register.
Contested elections in Cape Girardeau include mayor, city council members for wards 1 and 2 and the Cape Girardeau School Board. Voters will also decide the outcome of a $40 million bond issue for the Cape Girardeau School District. The bond issue would fund a new elementary school to replace Franklin Elementary School, security and building upgrades districtwide, and an event stadium and auditorium at the high school.
Registration will be from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at Central High School library. Volunteers will register voters from 11 a.m. to noon and 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Monday at Jefferson Elementary School, Tuesday at Blanchard Elementary School and Wednesday at Alma Schrader Elementary School.
Registration is also available at the Cape Girardeau Public Library during business hours, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The League of Women Voters will host a candidate forum at the Cape Girardeau Career and Technology Center at 7 p.m. March 16.
