The government said Abou Jahjah, 31, had already been under an investigation before the riots, which started last Tuesday.

Meanwhile, about 3,000 people attended the funeral Friday for 27-year-old Mohammed Achrak, who was gunned down by a pensioner on Tuesday.

Achrak's brother, Satif, pleaded for calm. "We are all angered by what has happened ... but we don't need any more victims," he said.
