Area law enforcement agencies will demonstrate equipment and discuss their roles and responsibilities in law enforcement during the 9th annual Law Enforcement Day Program, to be held at West Park Mall Saturday, from 10 a.m.-9:30 p.m.
Area residents will have an opportunity to visit with members of the Cape Girardeau and Jackson Police Departments, Southeast Missouri State University's Department of Public Safety, U.S. Secret Service, Division of Liquor Control and representatives from the Burlington-Northern Railroad's "Operation Lifesaver."
"Law Enforcement Day offers local agencies a chance to meet with the people they serve and to increase awareness of the ever-changing role of law enforcement," said Patrolman Kevin Orr of the Cape Girardeau Police Department. "It also gives people a close view of operations of local criminal justice agencies."
A number of official vehicles will be available for viewing inside the mall.
Orr said at least five vehicles would be on display three by the Cape police department, and one each by Jackson police department and the university DPS.
The Secret Service will display several items, including confiscated counterfeit currency, and the Division of Liquor Control will display illegal gambling devices seized during its operations in Missouri.
Representatives of the Burlington-Northern Railroad will exhibit "Operation Lifesaver" information regarding railroad crossing safety.
