The Scott City School District will end its year May 28, under a revised calendar approved by the board at its Monday meeting, according to a meeting summary provided by the district.
Makeup days for the rest of the year are Monday, April 21, May 21 to 23, and May 27 and 28, the information said. A current version of the calendar is available at http://scschools.k12.mo.us/district/calendars/yearly-calendar, the information said.
School was supposed to end May 20. The district missed a total of 14 days -- 13 for weather and one for a water main break. The district will make up 10 days for weather and one for the water main with three days forgiven by the state.
In Missouri, schools have to be in class for 174 days, and/or 1,044 hours.
On a separate matter, the board voted to maintain membership in the Missouri Educators Unified Health Plan, an insurance consortium. Superintendent Diann Ulmer said about 110 employees are covered. The district pays employee premiums for the basic medical plan, but employees may purchase more expensive coverage. Rates for 2014-2015 show a 6.5 percent increase.
The district puts $423 aside for each health plan participant, out of which a premium is taken and the difference put into a health savings account.
Depending on the HSA chosen, rates for 2014-2015 will be $20 to $25 a month higher than the current school year, according to information Ulmer provided in an email to the Southeast Missourian.
In other business, the board:
* Approved an extension on the district's contract with OPAA! Food Management of Chesterfield, Mo., for the next school year. The approval is the second of four extensions allowed before the services must be bid again, the summary said. Next year's estimated cost is $380,638, compared to the projected $372,889 for this year.
* Recognized middle-school students Makayla Job, Skylar Rhymer, Brandon Rhymer, Isaac Pennington, Katherine Friese, Camryn Daniels, Gracie Kern, Lexi Hennecke and Race Baker, who won awards at the Southeast Missouri Regional Science Fair. Middle-school science teacher Sarah Bradshaw said eight of 13 student projects placed in their categories, along with four specialized awards. Job won "Top Overall 8th Grade Student" with her project and will attend the 65th annual International Science and Engineering Fair in Los Angeles.
