~ Burfordville home offers access to lake, pool and pavilions
This custom-designed home has all the appeal of a cottage by the lake as it sits among the tall firs and oak trees of the Hidden Valley community in Burfordville.
Seclusion and wilderness are abundant in this private fishing community, which provides a playground, a swimming pool and a park with pavilions. This week's showcase home sits on a double-lot property that includes two wooden decks, several walkways to the lake, a paved driveway, a single detached car port and a shed with electrical outlets.
The modified A-frame structure is sided with stained fir, concrete walls and faux-shaker roofing. While it appears to be a cottage partially embedded into the hillside, three bedrooms and two bathrooms are contained on two stories. Wide cement steps lead through terraced landscaping and large timbers up to the main-level wooden deck.
The front door opens into the living room that has a partially vaulted ceiling and a sloped exterior wall to the left. Light floods through two sky lights and four full-paned windows that overlook the lake and are framed with stained wood. Crossing the ceiling are three thick wooden beams, and from the center beam hangs a pewter chandelier. On the other two beams, the fans have pewter-colored blades. A smaller chandelier hangs over the downstairs stairwell enclosed with a wood banister. Snowy white walls and soft gray plush carpeting are contrasted by the natural wood of the window frames, stair banister and ceiling beams.
Along the inner wall to the right, are doors opening into a closet, bathroom, master bedroom and second bedroom. Each room features one or two sky lights and individually vaulted ceilings.
A whirlpool tub and shower in the bathroom sits across from an oval vanity, and the toilet sits against the opposite wall. Four vanity lights that hang above a beveled octagonal-shaped mirror and a small window brighten the pastel yellow walls and soft gray ceramic tile. A narrow linen closet, a medicine cabinet with etched glass and the vanity provide storage space.
The master bedroom features two sky lights, a lighted ceiling fan and a sliding-door closet. A deep taupe paint compliments the plush carpeting. The second bedroom has a small closet, a lighted ceiling fan and pastel yellow walls.
The ground-level floor has an open floor plan that connects a gathering room and the kitchen. Two large full-pane windows overlook the lake, while a large timber beam runs the length of the room above the windows. Deep taupe walls are accented by pastel yellow and terra cotta wall sections. Beneath the stairwell is a short pantry with white shuttered doors. A door in the kitchen opens onto the covered patio that leads to the carport and detached deck.
The gathering room, which could be a family room or dining room, is separated from the kitchen by an island. The L-shaped kitchen layout positions the refrigerator against an inner wall, while the double sink, smooth-top stove and above-range microwave sit against the patio wall. The light maple cabinets are topped with Formica counter tops of either multi-color earth tones or plum, and the color scheme is continued onto the ceramic floor tiles. Two windows that run the length of the counter sit above the sink.
Between the kitchen and gathering room is a hallway with doors to a furnace room, a third bedroom, a washer/dryer closet and a second bathroom.
The third bedroom features two shuttered openings that overlook the gathering room, a room-length closet with sliding doors, a lighted ceiling fan and wheat-colored walls. The second bathroom is standard with a stand-alone shower and a water heater closet with a full-paned mirror bi-fold door. A three-paneled mirror medicine cabinet sits above an oval vanity with a white-and-black speckled ceramic counter. Soft gray ceramic tiles compliment the pastel colored walls and white cabinets.
