CREVE COEUR, Mo. (AP) -- The mayor of Kirkwood is improving as he recovers from near fatal wounds suffered in last week's City Hall shooting rampage.
A family friend said Mayor Mike Swoboda has been upgraded to serious condition, after being listed as critical since he was shot twice in head on Feb. 7.
Friend Tom Noonan said Swoboda still faces months of rehabilitation and recover.
Two police officers, two council members and the city's public works director were killed when Charles Lee "Cookie" Thornton stormed the council chambers. Thornton was then shot and killed by police.
