CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Yolanda King, the oldest child of Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King, will speak at the Show Me Center Monday at 7:30 p.m.
She will speak about "Multi-Cultural Diversity: The New Frontier."
The presentation is open to the public. Admission is $2 for the general public and $1 for university students, faculty and staff.
Her appearance is sponsored by the Student Activities Council in conjunction with Minority Student Services.
King will present a lecture which blends poetry, prose and dramatic monologues.
King wrote her first play when she was eight. She studied acting, speech and dance at The Actors' and Writers' Workshop in Atlanta, Ga.
She received a bachelor of arts degree in theatre and African-American Studies at Smith College in Northampton, Mass. and a masters degree in theatre at New York University.
She presently serves as co-director of Nucleus, a company of performing artists which tours high schools, colleges and churches throughout the country.
King also serves on the board of directors of The Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change, Inc. and is director of The King Center's Cultural Affairs Program. Through the Cultural Affairs Program, she produces a variety of artistic events.
