Dr. Hugh Scott, a black educator, administrator and author, will speak at the 13th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Breakfast.
The event begins at 8 a.m. Monday in the Student Recreation Center.
Choirs from Southeast Missouri State University and the community will perform at the breakfast, commemorating the slain civil rights leader.
Tickets won't be sold at the door, but are available through Friday at the Southeast Bookstore in the University Center.
Scott has been dean of programs in education at Hunter College of the City University of New York since 1975.
He previously was the first black superintendent of schools in the District of Columbia.
He authored "The Black School Superintendent: Messiah or Scapegoat?" The book, published in 1980, focused on the trials and triumphs of black superintendents in the nation's urban areas.
