Key to kindness
Debbie Patterson reported a kind clerk at Penny Pincher, 1004 William St. When Patterson locked her keys in the car, Laura Kennedy helped her get the door open. "She was very determined to get the keys out for me. She really helped me that day. And thanks to her, I wasn't late for work," Patterson said. "I didn't know her before this, but now I've got a new friend."
Wonderful neighbors
Louise Duncan says her neighbors, Shelah and Darin, in the 400 block of South Hanover are the sweetest young couple she knows. Darin mows her lawn. They bring the newspaper to her porch and retrieve the garbage cans. "Anything I need, I just call and they are there to help," Duncan said.

A friend indeed
"Mention acts of kindness and I immediately think of Dorothy Leoni, my friend and fellow tenant at Lindenwood Apartments. Dorothy uses her car to provide transportation to and from doctor and dental appointments, hair dresser, and grocery shopping to several ladies in the apartments who don't drive. Dorothy does this frequently and willingly at her own expense and is worthy of recognition for her acts of kindness." From her friend, Lee Fuist.
More good neighbors
Haydn and Norma Fox extended a thank you to their neighbors, John and Barbara Yallaly. "Any time we need anything or any help, they are there. They are really just wonderful neighbors," Norma Fox said. The Foxes also thanked friends Ron and Nila Wright for their help, especially when they moved Norma's mother to a residential care facility.

"They are very dedicated, local volunteers who make a big difference around here." The volunteers are Marilyn Chapman, B.J. Bowman, Charles Balsamo, Linda Goodman and Liz Reischman.
A helping hand
Eula Randles of Wolf Lake, Ill., reported Della McMahan, liaison for the Shawnee School District, is "really supportive" in her job. She is also a member of the United Methodist Church at Wolf Lake and is a lay speaker for the church. She is ready to step in anytime she is called on. Last week, when a family lost their mobile home due to a fire, she collected clothing for the family.
