JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder is filling in as governor while some of Missouri's other top elected officials are on a trade mission in China.
Kinder took over as acting governor Monday morning and is to remain in that role until Gov. Matt Blunt's expected return on Friday night.
Blunt, Sens. Kit Bond and Claire McCaskill and various other officials are traveling to China to promote Missouri's economic development interests.
A spokesman says Kinder will receive regular briefings on the state's response to floods in southern and eastern Missouri. Kinder also is expected to announce some appointments and issue and executive order about a state mentoring program while Blunt is away.
