Kinder: State will keep its commitment to veterans

Missouri will keep its commitments to veterans despite funding challenges, Lt. Gov. Kinder told a group of residents and staff Monday at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

He announced plans to work with the legislature to ensure that the seven veterans homes in the state stay well staffed and well funded. Last week, Kinder visited homes in St. Louis, Mexico and Warrensburg, Mo. He'll visit the veterans home in St. James, Mo., on Wednesday.

"These veterans homes are tremendous points of pride for their communities, for their residents and for the staff," Kinder said. "It's truly my honor to get to see so many veterans who gave their service to our country."

Kinder helped to pass the Missouri Military Family Relief Fund, which financially helps families of those who were called to duty as a result of Sept. 11. He also helped to form and was chairman of the former Governor's Advisory Council for Veterans Affairs.
