Missouri Senate President Pro Tem Peter Kinder held a news conference in Jefferson City on Tuesday to help promote this weekend's statewide sales tax holiday. The sales tax holiday will be in effect from Friday through Sunday, during which time the state's 4.225 percent sales tax will be suspended on certain clothing, computers, computer software and school supplies. Locally, the individual county and municipal sales taxes will be suspended as well. Kinder, who sponsored the sales tax holiday legislation in the Missouri Senate, said that the event is expected to benefit shoppers and retailers alike. He also emphasized that this year's inaugural holiday is especially important because the possibility of future sales tax holidays hinges on this year's success.
