KFVS12 will conduct a digital television "soft test" during Monday's 6 p.m. news broadcast.

The five-minute test will involve a simulated shutdown of the KFVS12 analog signal.

According to KFVS12 marketing director Paul Keener, the station will separate its analog and digital signals. Viewers will receive different messages depending on which signal their TV is receiving.

The analog signal will carry a message telling them the TV is not ready for digital broadcasts, followed by information to help them prepare. The digital signal will carry a message telling viewers the TV is ready for digital broadcasts.

Keener said cable and satellite viewers should also participate in the soft test. Cable and satellite providers are supposed to deliver a signal that analog TVs can display, he said. If viewers get the analog message, their provider is not ready for the transition.

The switch to digital-only broadcasts is scheduled for Feb. 17.
