PADUCAH, Ky. -- Kentucky officials are attempting to extradite Timothy Wayne Krajcir, 67, who in 2008 confessed to killing five women in Cape Girardeau, from a prison in Illinois to their state to face felony charges.
Assistant Commonwealth Attorney Seth Hancock said the state is working with Illinois officials to transport Krajcir to Paducah to face the new charges.
A McCracken County grand jury in March indicted Krajcir on charges that include first-degree sexual abuse, kidnapping, first-degree burglary and first-degree robbery, court records show. The charges stem from an incident that occurred Jan. 1, 1978, according to the indictments.
In 2008 Krajcir confessed to five murders in Cape Girardeau in the late 1970s and early 1980s. He has been sentenced to 14 life sentences in prison. He is serving an 80-year sentence in Illinois for murders in Williamson and Jackson counties in Illinois.
In July, officials moved Krajcir to the Pontiac Correction Center, a maximum security facility, because of "the nature of his crimes."
Officials have tentatively scheduled an arraignment on the new charges for Krajcir to take place at 8:30 a.m. May 10 in Paducah.
