KENNETT, Mo. -- During a speech at the Kennett Area Chamber of Commerce, Missouri Gov. Matt Blunt announced Monday that a state grant will assist the city of Kennett in economic projects. Blunt approved $400,000 for the city's downtown revitalization including the construction of a swimming pool made possible by donations from musician Sheryl Crow. The money will come through the Community Development Block Grant program with resources from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The city proposes to make several improvements to downtown buildings and facades, sidewalks, lighting and parking lots. Underground utilities will also be upgraded. These improvements will complement the new Sheryl Crow Aquatic Center, which is currently under construction.
