He is an alumni of the university, having received a bachelor's degree in accounting in 1987.

"I'm really honored," Combs said. "I've stayed in touch with the university since graduating, and hope I can do a good job as curator."

Combs, a Republican, will succeed John Lichtenegger of Jackson.
