KENNETT, Mo. -- McDonald's customers and employees in Kennett had some excitement Tuesday afternoon as law enforcement officers converged on a car and two suspects in the parking lot, using a police dog named Midas as backup.

Capt. Tim Trowbridge of the Kennett Police Department said Kennett officers assisted the Dunklin County Sheriff's Department in an assault case that had happened outside the city limits.

Dee Williams, McDonald's manager, witnessed the events that led to the apprehension of the man and woman arrested in the parking area.

"The police came in behind them and before they could get away, the police had them blocked in," said Williams. "[The suspects] got out of the car and began to fight to try and get away. That's when the police pulled their guns."

Williams said police released Midas to help with the apprehension.

"The dog was trying to attack the guy," Williams said. "The girl then started fighting the police to get the police away from the guy."

The male suspect was wanted in connection with a stabbing that had occurred earlier on County Road 547 just outside of Kennett, near the Pepsi plant, according to the Dunklin County Sheriff's Office.

After the suspects were apprehended, the vehicle, a white Mercury Cougar, was towed away.
