KELSO -- The 15th annual Kelso Sommerfest kicks off Friday with the crowning of the Sommerfest queen.
Other activities during the two-day event include a co-ed volleyball tournament, horseshoe tournament, appearances by Cape Shriner Clowns and an arm wrestling contest.
The festival will be held at the Kelso Park, situated along Highway 61 between Benton and Scott City.
The Sommerfest Queen contest begins at 7 p.m. Friday. Vying for the title are Nicole Schabbing, Wendy Wooldridge, Angela Vickers, Wendy Heuring, Karen Spence, Christy Lowes, Rhonda Trankler, Christine Klueppel, Amanda Wright, Katina Watson and Amy Diebold.
Also on Friday, the band Decade will perform from 8:30 to 11:30 p.m.
Grounds open at 11 a.m. Saturday. At noon, a co-ed volleyball tournament is scheduled, followed by a horseshoe tournament at 1 p.m. Cape Shrine Club clowns will be on the grounds from 5-7 p.m., and an arm wrestling contest is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Live entertainment from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. will be provided by One Night Stand.
There is no parking or attendance fee.
