State Auditor Margaret Kelly, in the midst of a 66-county tour across Missouri as the Republican candidate for lieutenant governor, will bring her campaign to Cape Girardeau Friday.
Kelly will appear at a noon rally at the Cape County Republican Headquarters, located at 1749 Independence.
Kelly began the campaign swing last Saturday at the Cotton Carnival in Sikeston and will conclude it with a rally in Jefferson City on Oct. 30.
"I look forward to sharing my views on the need for more effective and efficient government in Missouri. This need for better use of taxpayer dollars is one of my reasons for seeking the office of lieutenant governor," said Kelly.
"I look forward to listening to the concerns of citizens in Cape Girardeau County and discussing the challenges we face in education, agriculture, health care and the creation of more and better job opportunities.
Kelly was appointed state auditor in 1984 by Gov. John Ashcroft, making her the first woman to hold statewide office in Missouri. She was re-elected in 1986 and 1990.
Kelly is running against State Sen. Roger Wilson of Columbia for the lieutenant governor's office.
