BENTON -- Thomas W. Kelly High School in Benton and parents of seniors are in the process of planning Project Graduation 1991.
This marks the second year for the program. Last year, about 89 percent of the senior class participated.
Developed in Maine in 1983, Project Graduation has proven a successful approach to stopping deaths and disabilities associated with drinking and driving at graduation parties, said school officials.
"Graduation night is a very special time for the senior class. Project Graduation gives them the opportunity to have a very good time together in a safe atmosphere," said Ernie Lawson, principal at Kelly.
Senior students have participated in several fund-raising events during the year for Project Graduation, including a concession stand at the Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo and school ball games and selling T-shirts.
Donations are also being sought from parents, grandparents and area businesses. Donations should be sent to: Kelly High School/Project Graduation, P.O. Box 98, Benton, Mo., 63736, Attn. Carolyn Pazdera.
