KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A Kansas City man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for shooting at police officers in April 2002 during a narcotics bust.

Prosecutors said Derrick A. Hopkins, 24, shot at members of the Kansas City Police Department's tactical response team on April 3, 2002, after an undercover officer bought crack cocaine from the man.

Officers returned fire and hit Hopkins, who was taken to a local hospital with multiple wounds.

Hopkins pleaded guilty in July to first-degree assault of a law enforcement officer and several drug charges. He was sentenced Thursday.
