The Knights of Columbus St. Joseph Council 6420 in Scott City has been active in community service and support with its youth programs and donations.
An alcohol and drug abuse poster contest, judged by the SEMO Drug Task Force, was held for area 8- to 11-year-olds and 12- to 14-year-olds. First- and second-place winners received gift cards. At St. Joseph School, Lyndsie Robert was the first-place recipient in the 8- to 11-year-old category, and Macy Hall won the 12- to 14-year-old category. At St. Denis School, Elizabeth Powers placed first in the 8- to 11-year-old category. Ashlyn McIntosh was the first-place winner for St. Augustine School. Altogether 56 posters were entered.
A drug and alcohol abuse essay contest also awarded first- and second-place winners with gift cards. St. Joseph's Robert was a state winner and will receive state recognition and a KC savings bond.
Morgan Campbell was St. Joseph's first-place winner in the fifth- and sixth-grade category; Trevor Job won the seventh- and eighth-grade category. St. Ambrose's first-place winner in the fifth and sixth grade category was Billi Charleston; Becky Kennedy placed first in the seventh- and eighth-grade category. St. Augustine School's first-place winner in the seventh- and eighth-grade category was Mariah Schott. Kelly Holder finished first in Scott City High School's ninth- and 10th-grade category. Sarah Ishmael took first place in the ninth- and 10th-grade category at Chaffee High School.
Grand Knight Marcus Schaefer presented a $400 check to Harvey Cooper at the Sikeston Community Workshop. Funds were from the proceeds of KC No. 6420 Scott City Tootsie Roll Drive, of which Louis Bader Jr. was the chairman.
Schaefer presented a $600 check to the Kenny Rogers Children's Center. Bader was chairman for that effort as well.
