The Board of Regents of Southeast Missouri State University Tuesday named Demetrius Karathanos as interim dean of the College of Business Administration. Karathanos is a professor in the management department at Southeast.
He will serve as interim dean until June 30, 1993, while a national search is conducted for a candidate to replace former dean Richard Schmidt.
Schmidt resigned August 31 to accept a position as dean of the School of Business Administration at St. Thomas University in Miami.
"Dr. Karathanos joined the faculty of Southeast in 1979 and later gained invaluable experience when he served as interim chairperson of the department of management for two years," said Southeast President Kala M. Stroup. "In addition, he is a faculty leader in the self-study, which will lead the College of Business Administration to accreditation."
Interim Provost Sheila Caskey said, "We feel the selection of Dr. Karathanos will prove beneficial because of his strong educational and administrative background and because he has earned the respect and support of his peers in the college."
Bert Kellerman, a professor in the marketing department, will assist Karathanos as associate to the dean. Kellerman will handle external relations.
