A Kansas City, Missouri, man is in custody after police say he was in possession of a stolen vehicle from Cape Girardeau.
Patrick Jones, 35, faces charges of tampering with a motor vehicle and possession of a controlled substance.
According to a news release from Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter, deputies went Saturday to a residence outside of Benton, Missouri, after receiving reports of a suspicious man.
Jones was found, and deputies determined he was in possession of a car reported stolen from Cape Girardeau, inside which police found two plastic baggies. One contained more than nine grams of a substance that field-tested positive for cocaine. The other contained plant material consistent with marijuana.
The tampering and possession charges are class C felonies. He also was charged with misdemeanor of possession of a controlled substance.
Jones remains in custody at the Scott County Jail on a $5,000 bond, cash or surety.
