America's juvenile justice system is the topic of the July edition of Sen. John Ashcroft's "At Work" cable television program.
The program is carried by more than a dozen cable systems in Missouri, including TCI in Cape Girardeau.
The show can be seen locally every other Sunday at 7:30 p.m. on Channel 5. The July show will be shown on July 20.
Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions is the guest on this month's public affairs program, hosted by Ashcroft.
Sessions chairs the Senate Youth Violence Subcommittee. He said the nation's juvenile justice system is broken and must be overhauled.
Anti-crime provisions long advocated by Ashcroft are included in legislation before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
The provisions include trial as adults for the most serious juvenile offenders, use of charitable and faith-based organizations in juvenile offender programs, wider discretion for local authorities in incarcerating juveniles, minimum prison sentences for juvenile offenders who use firearms to commit crimes, and sharing of juvenile records with schools, courts and police.
