CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Gallery 100 and the Southeast Missouri Council on the Arts will present a new juried exhibition, the Midwest Sculpture Show, at Gallery 100 Sunday. An opening reception and awards presentation will be held from 2-4 p.m. at the gallery.

Juried competitions show the public the newest and best work of upcoming artists in the region and provide the artists with professional exposure and the opportunity for awards.

They are a step on the ladder to professional artistic recognition.

Cash awards and ribbons will be given by the juror, Thomas Gipe, professor of art and department head at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. Gipe has been published in "Heartland Blacksmiths: Conversations at the Forge."

He has also served as co-coordinator of the 1987 National Conference of Contemporary Cast Iron Art in Birmingham, Ala.
