Cape Girardeau Central Junior High School became the first champions of Missouri's Thinking Cap Quiz Bowl.

The eighth grade team placed first among 61 teams that competed.

The contest, completed on a computer disk, tests accuracy and speed on a variety of subject areas. The team earned a score of 1,294, a 95 percent accuracy rate.

This is the first year the contest has been held in Missouri.

Members of the team are Jeremy Driskell, Elizabeth Green, Dustin Gross, Troy Hooper, Elizabeth Kunz, Kelly Morgan, Trent Redfearn, Wade Russell, Beth Shivelbine, and Vickie Ventrella.

The junior varsity scholar bowl team placed third recently at the Junior Varsity Invitational Scholarbowl at Bernie.

Members of the team are 10th graders Jennie Lukens and Sabrina Renka; and ninth graders Emily Trueblood, Todd Matzat, Aaron Hessenkemper, David Hearnes, Sven Rainey, Jeff Banks, Derek Watson and David Haycraft.
