June will go down as one of the wettest ever recorded in Cape Girardeau, just a year after one of the driest.

The Paducah, Ky., National Weather Service office reported on its website Monday that the 7.76 inches of rain recorded in June at the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport is the second-wettest on record. The total is 4.19 inches above the normal for the month.

The weather service also said June 2012 was one of the driest ever, with only 1.37 inches or rain recorded at Cape Girardeau.

Rain across the country's midsection caused major river flooding and kept many farmers out of the fields for much of the spring, delaying crop planting.
