A jump rope team from Fox High School near St. Louis will perform in Cape Girardeau later this month as a prelude to the America Heart Association's Jump Rope For Heart.
The team, called Fox Flyers, will perform Feb. 21 at 2 and 4 p.m. at the heart association's Heartbeat '93 event at West Park Mall.
In addition to the jumpers, information will be available at the mall about healthy lifestyles. Cholesterol and blood pressure screenings will be offered.
The team will also perform at local school on Feb. 22.
"We hope to turn on students to our Jump Rope for Heart, one of our main programs," said Lauchette Low with the heart association.
Jump Rope for Heart is planned Feb. 27 at the Student Recreation Center on the Southeast Missouri State University. Jumpers will skip rope from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. to raise money for the heart association.
"We have for our core group the Smokefree Class of 2000," said Low. "But everyone is invited to participate. We are urging their brothers and sisters and friends to all collect money and to jump rope."
Prizes including T-shirts, gym bags and windbreakers will be awarded. A trophy will be presented to the school raising the most money and Vision 2000 will award a cash prize to the jumper collecting the most money.
