At a preliminary hearing Wednesday morning, Circuit Judge Gary A. Kamp decided to uphold charges against Bradley J. Daugherty in connection with a domestic assault.
Daugherty, 18, is accused of assaulting a woman Aug. 5 at a Cape Girardeau residence.
Police responded to the house because of an alleged domestic assault to find Daugherty walking toward them, according to a probable-cause statement signed by patrolman Jeff Bourbon of the Cape Girardeau Police Department. When the victim and her mother identified him, he turned and ran from police, according to the statement. One officer discharged his Taser but missed as Daugherty slammed the door to his apartment.
Bourbon kicked the locked door until it opened. Daugherty then tried to push the door shut again, but police forced it open and apprehended him.
As he was arrested, Daugherty asked twice if he could say goodbye to the victim. When police said no, he tried again to escape and an officer stunned him with a Taser, according to the sworn statement.
The victim told police Daugherty pushed her repeatedly, knocked her down and injured her arm. She also stated he brandished a knife and threatened to kill himself if she called police.
Daugherty's attorney, Jacob Zimmerman, filed a motion to reduce bond to $6,000, which Kamp granted.
As of Thursday night, Daugherty was still in custody at the Cape Girardeau County Jail.
