Judge finds probable cause in Mississippi County shooting case

CHARLESTON, Mo. -- A Puyallup, Wash., resident will return to court next week on charges stemming from a fatal shooting.

Following this week's preliminary hearing for Andra R. Phillips, 34, the court determined there was sufficient evidence of Phillips' involvement in the shooting death of Gregory Gary, also of Puyallup. Gary was found dead April 10 in Charleston from an apparent gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Phillips was charged with second degree murder, distribution of a controlled substance near government-assisted housing.

According to Mississippi County Prosecuting Attorney Darren Cann, testifying at the preliminary hearing was Sgt. William Cooper with the Missouri State Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control.

"The court found probable cause to believe that felonies were committed and that the defendant committed said felonies," Cann said in a news release.

Phillips was bound over to appear in circuit court Tuesday.
