Illinois State Police announced Wednesday that a crash in Johnson County killed one and injured four Tuesday evening.
According to a press release, at approximately 6:48 p.m. on July 31, a fatal crash occurred on Interstate 24 eastbound. Involved in the crash was a Penske rental truck towing a van. There were two occupants in the cab of the truck, and three in the cargo area of the truck. The truck experienced a blow-out and ran off the road.
Of the five occupants, a 33 year old man was killed. Of the four survivors, three occupants were taken to Heartland Regional Medical Center, and one was carried by life-flight helicopter to Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
The crash is still under investigation by the Illinois State Police.
Identities of the victims are being withheld pending notification of the families.
